Shafts of Sunlight

Light from the sun shouting farewell.

There is fire at the top.

The landscape features most prominently in the body of my work. It is a landscape of suggestion, rather than a faithful figurative rendering; it is a landscape of fiction and abstraction. Major influences on my work have been the Canadian landscape, the tropical forest of the Congo and the land of the Mediterranean/Middle East. Born in Exeter, Ontario,I studied at the University of Prince Edward Island, McGill University in Montreal and the Université du Québec à Trois Rivières. I always ask one question; when does the unconventional become so utterly conventional as to become uninteresting - dull in fact? I hope these are not dull whatever else they are. Let me know what you think.

Symmetry: Stage Left, Page Eight

The left starts it off. I looked at it twice -- there was something about the lines. The shredder was not fed that day. Something about the lines said, "there is more to this -- just look a little deeper".

Once tagged, it became.

Spring Spiral

Peering upward, eyes searching as thoughts turn to spring and renewal. Convergence and perception, concentration and attraction give direction.

It is so difficult to maintain that focus -- perhaps it is a false start.

Page 7 - Skipping Ahead

Faithful to the original doodle, the drawing takes the full space that the blank page offers.

Breaking free of margins is sometimes just the best!

Fribble: Part 5 of a Humble Tribute to the Doodle

Fribble -- related to doodling, to trifling and puttering around? Who knew?

The Doodle

The Drawing

Definitely "fribbolous".

Infinitely frivolous!

Scraps of Paper: part 4 of a Humble Tribute to the Doodle

Casual scribbles - aimless in purpose, produced without thinking.

Minor works

Marginalia - in school notebooks and on agendas.

Unfocused, unconscious and simple eventually evolves.
