Sailing - a series

Previous posts have commented: we are blown away on water the colour of warm places, feeling the undertow, the pull of the tides lifting us out to sea.

Papiers colles (7" x 5")
Papiers colles (7" x 5")
We live on dreams on cold winter days. On the solstice, close to either pole there is comfort in this.
Papiers colles (6" x 4")

Persevering, we sail in rough seas, control is tenuous at best. The wind blows through our courage and we attempt a hopeful landing.
Papiers colles (11" x 7")
A safe and hopeful landing on the shores of generosity.

It is always time to set sail again; to sail to the land of two moons on leeward winds.

The Northern Lights

The aurora borealis - bright and dancing.
Papier colles 2016-Sept-16 (6" x 4")
Once mysterious, now scientifically explained, yet despite explanations mystery abounds and awe inspires.

Circles

Consider the circle; so simple yet so complex especially geometrically speaking. There is the circumference and the radius, the arc and the disc, the diameter and the centre -- no doubt other bits that I have missed.

Papiers colles, 4 Feb 2016 (6" x 4")

Papiers colles, 30 April 2016 (8.5" x 6")
Perfectly round with its ends meeting; we sit in them and study in them -- so many circles.

Flourishing (fl. 21st Century)

Growing well, being successful are all part of thriving and prospering. Does this equal flourishing?
Blooming, blossoming, burgeoning -- certainly quantity plays its part.
Papiers collles, 5 July 2016 (6" x 4")
Papiers collles, 11 June 2016 (9" x 7.5")
Always in a state of activity or production -- industrious. There must be an equation with variables galore somehow seeking and achieving balance. But then, I never was very good in math.

The Katanga Sunbird

The mythical bird of the Katanga savanna - a cousin to the  Bird of Paradise which is not actually a bird at all. How absurd.
Ink on paper (8 1/2" x 11") 1984 Lubumbashi
The Katanga Sunbird is rumoured to enjoy rushes in the marshland of the artificial lake. Very inky!

Patterns

Patterns, a form, a design repeated regularly

2015- Jan-14 (9" x 7.2") [2016]
and not so regularly -

Not regimented though.

Gulf Shore North Triptych

Identity and place -- a bay within a bay -- stretching out to the deep-water blue of the Gulf. The shore, the coast, the beach, the dunes and then the allure of the ocean beyond.

Acrylic on canvas (24 " x 70") (c) L.Mould
The Gulf meets the Island and plays.

Sea and Sky are One

Enduring the lasting misty presence that persists despite the wishes of 100,000 plus for it to disperse.
Begone grey! Then out comes the sun and all is well.

Once I lived on a Mountain - reprised

Once I lived on a mountain - cypress trees grew there, in abundance.
Cypress in Yellow, 1998 (acrylic on paper)
Veils of Haifa, 1998 (acrylic on paper)
Cypresses at Bahji, 2000 (acrylic on paper)
They still grow there on terraces and in circles. They surround the olive groves and interact with palm trees, always reaching upward.

Warriors

Swirling about on the page, moving forward in a big hurry. Warriors they are - each with a fancy weapon.

Rocky Shore

In the mind's eye that shore, the rocky shore, is a collection of shorelines. A collection of rocks and grasses, of sand and pools of water, of fossils, shells, and sea glass.
In light.

Sky Infusion

The light stays in liquid form, I think.

Fortune Cookies: a Cookie Policy

Some cookies are worth accepting.
Some fortunes are worth keeping.

And somewhere in between is a story worth the telling.

Swift Rush

Quick to respond, at the ready -- no preparation here.

"Swift Rush" (acrylic on canvas 28" x 22")
Flying swiftly, moving forward without much thought; make haste, make haste.

Sketches From a Town in the Rainforest

Sketches from a steamy rainforest in the heart of Africa from long ago and far away in another time and another place when I was younger than today and things looked different but were as normal as could be in their own reality of what once was.

From a sketchbook (5.5 x 8.5)

From a sketchbook (5.5 x 8.5)
In a world that was black and white and colour including technicolor,

From a sketchbook (5.5 x 8.5)
and yes, it is a small world after all.

Edge of Spring

Orienting to sunlight and warmth, we dream of spring.

Acrylic on paper (11" x 8")

Fresh green shoots of grass beckon, riches growing from the near death of winter.
Just a suggestion.

Drawing as Method

Indeed method is a way of doing something, carefully planned.

Drawing as Meditation

Repetition of lines, yet the forms are endlessly varied. And of course, some are indeed more forgiving than others.

Giving Directions

The elements are there, those basic substances that form everything.

Papiers colles with ink (9" x 7")

These are suggestions, partial views --   suggestive of a reaction because of the elements.
