Living on a Mountain

Once I lived on a mountain. It always gave choices.

Do I go up or down? Everyday.

The landscape features most prominently in the body of my work. It is a landscape of suggestion, rather than a faithful figurative rendering; it is a landscape of fiction and abstraction. Major influences on my work have been the Canadian landscape, the tropical forest of the Congo and the land of the Mediterranean/Middle East. Born in Exeter, Ontario,I studied at the University of Prince Edward Island, McGill University in Montreal and the Université du Québec à Trois Rivières. I always ask one question; when does the unconventional become so utterly conventional as to become uninteresting - dull in fact? I hope these are not dull whatever else they are. Terraced Landscape (Sifnos, Greece)

Terraced for planting, for natural fall-out of rain on rock; it undulates in the heat of the day.

I think of Sifnos, that island in the sun -- is there anything else but sunshine on this brilliantly lit, brilliantly coloured island.
